Artist's Statement
"I believe that art is a channelling process of the Creative Force, which occurs through somewhat mysterious means. This can only be achieved by letting go of all the fears, preconceptions, and doubts, which are always there, in many forms, to beset the creative urge, inherent in us all. This struggle is both a unique, and primarily solitary, journey that every artist undertakes.

Ever since I can remember, I have always loved art and often retreated into my art world / the 'world of art' in my formative years. Graduating in a Fine Arts Degree legitimized that passion and set me on the path to become a professional full time artist. My early works were mostly Okanagan landscapes in acrylics but there was no looking back after discovering oils. I am passionate about the Okanagan and the ever-changing colours of the muscular rolling hills and grasslands and continue to produce works on that theme. A couple of commissioned murals provided a brief interlude and while I will pursue other opportunities for mural painting, my focus is now back on oils. The inspiration for my most recent body of work, the Rain Series, came from gazing through a car windshield on a rainy day. The scene was an abstract view of reality that provided an interesting, challenging and engaging subject matter.”

James Andrew Postill was born in Vernon, B.C. and received his training at Okanagan University College. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993. One of Mr. Postill's specialties is custom mural painting; he has painted civic murals in his former community of Lumby, B.C., which depict its local logging industry, as well as the salmon which swim through Lumby's estuaries. Since moving to Vernon, Mr. Postill has begun building a base of private clientele. James greatly enjoys passing on his knowledge and experience in the Arts. He has instructed students as young as 6 years, all the way up to adult age.
