The collections we create throughout our lives have the power to take us on a journey of self-discovery, unlocking doors we could have never imagined. From bottle caps, rocks, stamps, coins, antiques, and art, each collection has provided me with some of the greatest education I have ever received. In this spirit, we launched the Young Collectors Club to inspire and encourage a lifelong passion for curiosity and learning through the development of an art collection. Our aim is to ignite a sense of wonder, personal exploration, and creativity in our youth and the young at heart.

Collecting and living with art not only provides children with a creative outlet for self-expression, but it also fosters a range of developmental benefits. From cognitive development to emotional intelligence and cultural awareness, art can help children grow into well-rounded individuals who appreciate beauty, creativity, and diversity. That's why we're dedicated to supporting and encouraging artistic exploration in our youth by inspiring them to build a collection that reflects their unique personalities and passions. A collection is something that can be cherished for a lifetime and serves as a meaningful and unique reminder of our life’s journey.

Art can also help develop emotional intelligence and the ability to recognize and express one's emotions. By living with art, children can better understand the power of emotional expression and how art can be used to communicate emotions. Additionally, collecting and living with art exposes children to different cultures and perspectives, broadening their understanding of the world and promoting empathy and understanding. In terms of cognitive development, studies have shown that exposure to art can enhance critical thinking, memory, and problem-solving skills. Lastly, collecting and living with art instills a sense of pride and ownership in children, who may feel a sense of responsibility for caring for and displaying their collection. This can help build confidence and self-esteem, as well as a lifelong appreciation for art!

Tickets for the event cost $25 each (or $20 for PAG Members.) Get your tickets today and join us at the Penticton Art Gallery's exhibition opening event on May 19th at 7pm. The exhibition runs through to June 17th, giving you plenty of time to select your new treasure. See you there! ♦

“Without an appetite, without an aspiration, void of appreciation, bankrupt of desire and hope, there, in his great house, let him sit and look upon his fingers. It is perhaps a more fortunate destiny to have a taste for collecting shells than to be born a millionaire. Although neither is to be despised, it is always better policy to learn an interest than to make a thousand pounds; for the money will soon be spent, or perhaps you may feel no joy in spending it; but the interest remains imperishable and ever new.”

- Robert Louis Stevenson
