“I took my first watercolour class in Penticton in 2012. From then on I was passionate about painting. I have also tried acrylic and oil but still prefer watercolour. I try to paint every day to increase my skills. It is such a joy to watch the colour on the paper transform into something beautiful. I choose watercolours since it flows, adding a liberating feeling to the creative process. I believe there should be movement in a painting conveyed by visible brush strokes and contrast of values and colours and aided by the fluid nature of watercolour. Colour excites me -- seeing it, mixing it, working it into many transparent layers bringing nature into crystalline focus. Image and technique combine to summon the viewer's own inner landscape of memories and emotions. They are elaborately detailed, introspective, and can take an hour or a few months to complete. The transparency of this medium allows me to build many complex layers of color and afford me the contemplation that is central to my process. Watercolour is my chosen medium because the jewel-like purity of its colors and the fluidity of the brush moving across the page in a pool of water allow me to achieve a range of expression truly unique to this medium.”
