It all starts at Square One. The Penticton Art Gallery invites Artists aged 16+ years of age to transform a simple 12” × 12” format into something entirely their own for SQUARE ONE, this year’s Under $500 Art Show and Fundraising Sale.

One blank square. Unlimited creativity.

Free for all PAG Member Artists | Every work begins with the same parameters: 12" × 12" cradled or stretched canvas, or a framed piece with outside dimensions exactly 12” x 12” and priced between $100 and $500. What happens from there is entirely up to you.

SQUARE ONE opens Wednesday, October 28 in conjunction with the first night of Penticton Art Gallery’s beloved annual Soup Bowls Fundraiser. This perennial favourite is celebrating its 30th anniversary and sells out each year. With an eager audience of art lovers, soup supporters and friends old and new, SQUARE ONE will offer exceptional exposure for participating Artists.

The Art Show & Sale continues through Thursday, December 17, 2026, making it a wonderful opportunity for holiday shoppers, first-time art buyers and seasoned collectors alike to find an original work of art for under $500.

GUIDELINES                                                                                                                                            

Art must be original and ‘one of a kind’, using oil, acrylic, water media, encaustic, pastel, pen and ink, pencil, graphite, photography, hand-pulled prints, glass, ceramics or fibre art.

Submission requirement: Works must be created on, or securely mounted/affixed to, a 12" × 12" canvas or cradled panel, or framed under glass to an external dimension of 12” x 12”.

Artworks will be hung to form a vibrant mosaic of colour, texture, materials and ideas. Each 12" square work will stand on its own while contributing to a bold collective display, inviting visitors to discover new Artists and take home an original piece to treasure.

Open to all Penticton Art Gallery Member Artists from Peachland to Osooyos.

Adults >60: $42.00 incl GST per year | Seniors 60+: $31.50 incl GST per year

NUMBER OF PIECES

Wall space is available for 100 artworks in total. A maximum of 2 artworks per artist will be accepted due to Gallery space limitations and the goal of including as many young artists as possible.

REQUIREMENTS                                                                                                    

SIZE and FINISHING OPTIONS

1) 12” x 12” x 1.5” stretched canvas or cradled wood panel. Works to be unframed with no wire as each piece will be mounted on a single nail, snugly against the wall. Edges must be completely finished in black or a complimentary colour, or the image must ‘wrap-around’ the 4 sides.

2) If your artwork is under glass, it will need to have a 12” x 12” frame and a wire hanger on the back.

HOW TO ENTER                                                                                                    

Submissions Open | September 15 - October 15, 2026.

● Don’t delay as space is limited to the first 100 artworks.

● Submission forms may be picked up at the Gallery or downloaded and printed at https://www.pentictonartgallery.com/adult-programming.

● Fill out your form and make a copy to attach to the back of your work. Artwork without a form attached will not be accepted.

● Return one form to education@pentictonartgallery.com, or drop off or mail to Penticton Art Gallery, 199 Marina Way, Penticton, BC V2A 1H5.

● If you require assistance, please reach out well before the deadline. Forms may also be picked at the Gallery.

ENTRY FEES                                                                                                    

PAG MEMBERS           | Free submission up to a maximum of 2 entries

TEENS 16 - 18           | Free submission up to a maximum of 2 entries           

NON-MEMBERS           | Purchase an annual PAG membership to submit up to a

  maximum of 2 entries.

● $42.00 incl GST           Adults < 60

● $31.50 incl GST          Seniors 60+

NUMBER OF PIECES | A maximum of 2 artworks per Artist may be accepted due to Gallery space limitations and the goal of including as many Artists as possible. Only 100 artworks will be shown for Artists 16 years of age and older.

ART DELIVERY | Due to storage limitations, artwork must be delivered to the Penticton Art Gallery on the following dates, between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. 

● Friday, October 16

● Saturday, October 17

● Monday, October 19

A copy of your submission form must be attached to the back of each individual piece, identifying the artwork and the Artist. Artwork may not be left at the Gallery without a submission form attached.

PRICING | This call for entry is open to available artwork, priced at a minimum of $100 to a maximum of $500. Sold items will be tagged with a red dot and will remain on display in the show until it closes on December 17, 2026.  Pick up is December 18, 19 and 21, 2026. Payment for works sold will be made by cheque within 30 days after the conclusion of the sale.  

COMMISSION RATE | 60% to the Artist, 40% to the Penticton Art Gallery in support of the Under $500 fundraiser. 

ARTIST PERMISSION | By submitting work for sale, an Artist gives their permission for their name and the artwork submitted to be displayed and offered for sale in the Penticton Art Gallery on the dates listed. The Artist also gives their permission for their name and images of the artwork submitted to be used in online and print promotion of SQUARE ONE Art Show & Sale.

CONDITIONS | Although Penticton Art Gallery greatly appreciates the generosity of participating Artists, donation of unsold artworks will not be accepted due to storage limitations.

INSURANCE | The Penticton Art Gallery provides insurance for artwork for the duration of the art show.

HOW TO SUBMIT AN ARTWORK BY THE OCTOBER 15, 2026 DEADLINE:

1. Download and print a SQUARE ONE Submission Form from the PAG website HERE.
Or pick up a form at Penticton Art Gallery, 199 Marina Way, Tues - Fri from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, Sat from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm.

2. Fill out all sections, proofread, and make two copies.

○ One copy will be submitted to PAG and

○ One must be securely attached to the back of your artwork.

○ Please note that artwork will not be accepted without an attached form.
